Stowe Family LawStowe Family Law has launched a specialist domestic and international surrogacy law service across a number of its 17 offices.

Surrogacy is an option for those couples who cannot conceive naturally and has risen in popularity in recent years. Despite this popularity, the current law in England and Wales means that the intended parents must apply for a court order as soon as the child is born to gain legal parental rights.

The Stowe specialist surrogacy team support people with legal advice to ensure they have the information they need to make key decisions and ensure that the necessary documentation is in place, and legal formalities complied with for domestic and international surrogacy arrangements.

Cheryl Grace, Senior Solicitor at the Stowe Leeds office said:“I am delighted we are launching a Surrogacy law service. Surrogacy is a wonderful way to help people start a new family or add to their existing families. But it is a complex journey, one that is not helped by the current 30-year-old laws in this area.

“Society has moved on and the current surrogacy laws are no longer fit-for-purpose. We welcome the current review by the Law Commission of England and Wales and the Scottish Law Commission on surrogacy laws and hope changes will be made that will make the law more fit for the modern world.”
