Supermarket chain Aldi looking to open a new UK supermarket each week

German supermarket chain Aldi has announced plans to open a new store in the UK every week for the next two years.

The company’s CEO Giles Hurley revealed that the company would look to invest up to £1bn to make this a reality.

This is on the back of the company revealing that profits had fallen by 26% to £197.9m, although they put this down to significant investments across its UK operation.

However, sales at Aldi rose by 11% when compared to the previous year to over £1.1bn.

Aldi’s chief executive in the UK and Ireland, Giles Hurley said: “The reality is that almost 50% of the population of the UK doesn’t currently shop with us and they tell us the main reason for that is that they don’t have a store near us.”
