Business Leader recently spoke to Roger Young, the MD of Roger Young Jaguar Land Rover about the business and the growing trends within the automotive sector.
Can you tell us more about your business and your customer base?
Uniquely for a dealership of our size, Roger Young remains family-owned and run, maintaining the values synonymous with a family run business and offering an exceptional level of customer service with a refreshingly personal approach. Our staff pride themselves on ‘going the extra mile’ to provide a unique customer experience. Roger Young began trading from his father’s farm in Bolventor, repairing Land Rovers and Farm Machinery. In 1984, Roger was awarded the Land Rover franchise for Defender and quickly became the country’s best dealer of the model.
Building on a strong reputation for honesty and integrity, the business began to grow rapidly and was moved to larger premises at Saltash, Cornwall in 1992 where Roger Young became a main retailer for the full Land Rover line-up. The dealership continued to grow to become one of the most successful businesses in the Land Rover network, collecting multiple awards over the years for customer satisfaction and vehicle sales.
We have a diverse customer base from a variety of sectors including: Construction, Hospitality, Sporting, Banking and Investment.
In regards to new car releases – what do you have coming up?
Jaguar Land Rover are continuing to introduce Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV), Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles (MHEV) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) to the model line-up. Most recently, the F-PACE PHEV and Defender PHEV for 21MY.
What are the key trends you’re seeing in the automotive sector?
We are seeing a shift in customers transacting with us online and virtually. Our virtual appointments are available using platforms including Zoom, FaceTime, Skype or WhatsApp Video. If these platforms are new to you, please be assured that we will give guidance in advance of your virtual appointment, so you can easily connect with us. On the other hand there are still a large amount of customers who prefer the showroom experience.
In your view what are the strengths of the Plymouth business economy? What improvements can be made?
We see the on-going housing developments and Mayflower 400 celebrations as a strength to the Plymouth economy. An improvement to the railway infrastructure would be beneficial to the region.
What is your message to any potential customers?
We are an experienced, reliable, friendly business based in Saltash, just five minutes from the Tamar Bridge. We value the experience we provide our customers, and build long lasting relationships, where we will always provide the best advice on all aspects of any type of transaction with us. Our customers use their experience with us to introduce the next generation of Jaguar Land Rover owners.
