Brazil 2016 Olympic Games organisers have called upon two companies from Weston-super-Mare to assist with refreshing an estimated seven million spectators.
Regency Event Solutions, a subsidiary of Regency Purchasing Group, and Thirst Solutions have been asked to assist in Rio de Janeiro, following their stint at the London 2012 Olympics.
The Weston-super-Mare firms worked together at the games to provide a team of 200 ‘human vending machine’ staff wearing food and drink backpacks at the Olympic Village in East London.
Together they dispensed Heineken, Coca Cola and Cadbury’s products in the Olympic village, as well as the Velodrome, Hockey, Handball arena and BMX arena.
Due to their success, Brazilian Olympic chiefs have requested the firms fly out to South America to consult and show them how to deliver this service using local employees at the 2016 games.
With Rio organisers planning for seven million tickets to be sold, the advice from Regency and Thirst Solutions will ensure crowds are kept refreshed in the scorching Brazilian temperatures.
RES Managing Director, Alex Demetriou, comments: “We were proud to work alongside Thirst Solutions at London 2012, as this was the first time in Olympic history that mobile vending had been used.
“There is no substitute for experience and therefore knowing that our management team has seen it and done it, gave the Brazilian Olympic organisers cause to contact us for assistance.
“It is a great coup for two South West companies to be selected to consult on the Rio de Janeiro Games and help deliver a local project for around seven million Olympic spectators.
“Working internationally is a first for the group and we are immensely proud to be associated with the Olympics again.”
