A popular annual festival is just around the corner, with Weston Lions set to present its fifth Real Ale and Cider Festival from Friday July 27 to Sunday July 29.

There will be 108 real ales and as this year’s theme is based on sport and the Olympics, there will be “Ale’lympic Gold” from Northumberland Brewery and “Olympic Flame” from Downton Brewery on offer.

In addition there will be 42 ciders all from local Somerset cider farms and a great selection of wine and soft drinks, which are free for children.

The Weston Real Ale Festival, which takes place on the Beach Lawns, has been assisted by the sponsorship of various businesses including Puxton Park, Thatchers Cider and Butcombe Brewery.

Local businesses have also been asked to sponsor a barrel with funds raised going to help BIBIC, Go Commando, Help4Heroes and Go Kids Go.

Weston Real Ale Festival Organiser Chris Nelson, said: “This really is becoming a popular event in Weston-super-Mare’s calendar and long may it continue.

“Over 6,000 pints of ale and 3,000 pints of cider were sold during the three day event last year.

“We were able to donate £5,000 to Weston Hospicecare and £5,000 to the RNLI and a further £4,500 was divided up and went to many other local good causes.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors and suppliers who help to make it such a successful event.”

This year’s event runs on Friday and Saturday from 11am-10:30pm with entry free until 6pm and £3 thereafter and Sunday runs from 11am-5pm.
