A business in Weston-super-Mare is celebrating its success after being established for 15-years despite the economic downturn.

Cheque Exchange, in Wadham Street, was opened by the Kimitri family, initially just as a simple cheque cashing centre.

The family, who own a string of businesses in the resort, say since then the firm has gone from strength to strength and has branched out to offer other cashing services.

In the past few years it has fought the recession head on and has now extended opening hours at weekends to cope with customer demand, as well as launching new gold days.

The Kimitri family said: “We are delighted to be celebrating 15-years in business especially in these difficult times when thousands of other businesses are closing and unemployment is at a 17-year high.

“We on the other hand are continuing to invest to meet the demands of our customers by introducing new services and expanding our opening hours.

“From starting out as a cheque cashing venue, we now offer pawn broking; we buy gold, offer short term loans and log book loans on cars and Western Union transfers.

“We also offer pre-paid credit cards to help people stay on top of their finances and help other businesses with debt or cash flow to protect them from creditors.

“As a way of saying thank you to our customers for their continued support we are introducing a new loyalty scheme and a referral scheme.
“These will see customers reap the benefits of using Cheque Exchange through discounts on their transactions.”

Cheque Exchange will continue to invest by a launching several other new services shortly, including commercial and business loans, phones for cash and cars for cash.

One service the Kimitri’s are keen to dispel any myths about is the Cash for Gold service by launching new gold days on Saturdays with extended opening hours.
They added: “Some people believe customers only sell gold because they need extra cash but in fact many sell because they are having a clear out.

“There is no point in having unwanted or unused gold in your drawer when you could have cash in your hand, especially with the price of gold now so high.

“So next time you are having a clear out pop in and see how much cash your old jewellery could generate, especially in the run up to Christmas.”
