Twenty new full-time jobs are being created at Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier as it gears up for the traditional start of the new holiday season in a few weeks’ time.
The popular seafront attraction traditionally recruits a large number of seasonal workers, which it is again seeking to do this year.
But in addition, it is making a significant investment by offering 20 new full-time positions.
Details of all the vacancies can be discussed at two recruitment days which are taking place at the Pier on Monday and Tuesday, 25 and 26 March, between 2pm and 6pm.
Tim Moyle, General Manager of the Pier, said: “Every year we recruit a number of occasional staff to help out in our busiest periods. Our payroll can go from around 100 usually to 320 in August. But in addition to the usual occasional staff, we have decided to invest in 20 new permanent positions, which is something different.
“Our intention would be for these staff to become multi-skilled and experienced in many different aspects of the Pier’s operations, from various retail roles to staffing the rides, these staff will train across all our various departments.
“It might be that if someone excels in a particular area, or shows particular enthusiasm or ability in a specific area, they can stay there but the intention is for them to become multi-skilled.”
Existing employees are eager to welcome new colleagues to the Pier’s team.
Retail Manager Sue Waller said: “I have been working here since 2008. Why should you come and work with us? Because it’s a fun working environment and we really want to recruit you!”
Team Leader Gheorghe Bogdan Ciprian said: “I love working at the Grand Pier because, for me, it is more than just a job, it’s family.”
Josh Miller stated: “I work in food and beverage, I work in events, as well as stores, retail and kids parties. It’s a great job because I can work here alongside college, we all get along and it’s lots of fun.”
Team Leader George Harris Aucott commented: “I started working at the Grand Pier when I was 15. I started off as a team member and have worked my way up to become the youngest team leader. I am at college three days a week and work at the Pier on my days off, getting plenty of hours.”
