Spectrum Medical

Steve Turner and Mark Drain are the entrepreneurial duo behind Spectrum Medical, a UK-based med-tech company specialising in perfusion systems, ICU devices and health-informatics solutions. Founded around 2006 (and building on initial technologies launched in 2005), the company is headquartered in Cheltenham with global operations including the U.S. and Italy.

Turner, serving as CEO, drives the company’s product-and-clinical vision: combining hardware, software and data analytics to support complex cardiac surgery and other high-acuity care. Drain, as CFO and co-founder, manages financial strategy, operations and scaling across international markets. Under their stewardship, Spectrum Medical has grown from its early diagnostic-system roots into a full solutions provider serving over 60 countries.

Turnover has climbed and the firm now has more than 350 staff. CVC Capital Partners pumped in an undisclosed sum to Spectrum in a 2022 deal valuing the company at about £1bn. Turner continues to serve as chief executive, while Drain runs the finance and operations side of the business.
